No more wind alert, Iwindsurf or Ikite readings for Seneca. Today the chamber of commerce building (structure monitor was mounted on) in Geneva burned to the ground. Its currently reading 0mph from the south as of 10am. Feel free to contact me regarding the latest conditions and paypal me to look out my window. I do hope they consider approaching the sate park to put a meter up at the park gate entrance - HWS currently has one up there (but it is not sending data or available to the public).

Weird too that they did it on purpose so they could build the new visitors center and boat museum.

So what actually physically happened to the meter on top of the Chamber? Did a representative of Windalert grab it or was it burned down, or pilfered? If I was Windalert I would be pissed off if it was just destroyed. I wonder if they could bring action in regard to it. Should somebody check?
I would be all for the meter being on the top of the park gate entrance, if it was possible for the meter to be unobstructed by trees. I didn't realize that this project was going to be happening now. Keep us abreast of its progress Brad if you could so that if necessary we may be able to advocate for a place to do what we do.
My sister is in admisions at HWS and regularly texts when big winds are out of the south. The boathouse meter would be great for S-SE readings.

Soon after my email to the company, Jeff the wind alert (aka whatever you want to call them) rep called me directly the next day and they had no clue what was going on - but they were receiving a signal (albeit 0 from the south). It was assumed that since there was a signal the gear was saved. I suggested the gate at the park as a new location but he said that putting a money maker in the public park would never fly. I suggested the Ramada or the Seneca yacht club as alternatives. Not sure the Buzzuto boat house at HWS is a good location...there are all kinds of shoreline variations and trees around it to get a good reading. Besides, perhaps its time to have it on the other side for a change ;D

When Iwindsurf first installed on Seneca the meter was in the park gate entrance shack and also at the home of the Park Ranger.
It was cool to get the current reading from the ticket taker prior to hitting the water, but that was before smart phones. They even had a monitor on that faced out the window so when the gate was closed we could still see the meter wind speeds.
I think the best short term might be a higher mast at the park rangers house, cause I think there was an issue in the past with the trees in the area.
