I was the last guy in today, but all the guys I talked to seemed fulfilled with what Lake O sent them at EBay. From what I can recall the roll call included Bill, Jim, Joe, Ken, Mark, Teddy, Scott, and myself. Gwind Gary was a site for sore eyes as most have not seen him in a while. He's been keeping himself going with some SUP training while dealing with some health adversity. He's had a few session and still has the bug.
Anyhow, Bill recommended a 5.2 which had been serving him well. I rigged that and went with my 85L Red board and headed out to join Teddy while Kinger took a break from no doubt shredding up the joint. The ramps were the biggest and most apparent I have seen. Joe said to go big, so I did. As I steered into a couple cresting waves I got some good hang time and a few landings. I was in the air longer that I have ever been before so my timing was off on the landing. It felt good so I went for it again and paid the price when I was ready to land but my equipment wasn't. I exposed the sail to the wind and started to rotate a bit forward as I prepared to land....but the water was still well below me. Oooops! I ended up on top of my boom and sail and banged my helmet on the mast ( I'm thinking the helmet saved my butt btw). The crash broke the "rope hook" off the gate of my boom head, and I ended up saving myself by using the spare line I keep in my pfd. I wrapped it around the mast old school tie on boom style and tied it off to the boom arms. I sailed in and swapped out the broken boom and hit the water again for a bit more sailing before calling it quits. That marks my second boom head issue at E Bay.
Teddy was ripping on his 4.7 the whole time and looked good. Scott didn't fair as well when he headed back out, as the wind must have lulled a bit and he ended up down the shore by the stairs after a blown jibe. Almost all of us have been there at some time....it soothed him a bit. No worse for wear, he and I shared a brew before heading home.
How about a reply from somebody who sailed in the earlier part of the day? I hear the kite guys headed up to Southwick.
