It's still windy now (10:34 p.m.), but here is my report from afternoon/evening session at Seneca. I arrived at the Chamber as the day shift guys were considering packing up. Bill was putting away his 5.8 and commented he was a sail size too small most of the day, it looked like he got out on his RRD Wave cult for some swell slashing though. Joe started the day on a 4.2 and from the sounds of the Quantum Leap wind line message he left, Kinger was there too. Scott the skymongrel was enjoying the lake all by himself and was ripping. THe wind lulled as I rigged so I put up a 6.6 and a 5.8 and large and middle sized boards. Joe and Scott were good sports and went out with me on 5.2 and 5.6, I was on a 6.6. THe lone late launch on the kite side of things was Kel. He was everywhere on a 12m. After being overpowered and unable to enjoy the swell fully I went in for my smaller set up and had a blast on that till 6:30 or so. I spent a bunch of time talking with a really nice photographer name Louey (spelling) who shot a treasure trove of great shots of the action with a nice compact Canon with super zoom. He said he'd get a hold of me about the pics. Fingers crossed. Good shots from Seneca are so rare. He had some great Montezuma nature shots as well. Who else got out today? where? how was it?
BTW SENECA MAY BE TIED UP THIS WEEKEND DUE TO THE HYDROPLANE RACES GOING ON AT THE NORTHER END. SAMPSON OF IT BLOWS SOUTH? CANANDAIGUA?

Beautiful day. Got there at 10:30 am and was there till 5. Three of us kiters put up 8m & 9m kites at the park, rather under powered (I was thinking a 10m would have been perfect - if I only had one). Mainly 20mph with rare gusts to 29mph I'm guessing. Thought it was going to swing more west but it appeared to remain south. Broke out my 6-4mil wetsuit as it was chilly. The wind on our end was gusty but the swells were impressive. Cut one of my lines in my hook knife that was stowed on my life jacket on the way in (what are the odds of this???), anyhow I am going to attempt a braid repair and lesson learned. Now I have to listen to the drone of motor boats for 3 days. Noticed that they removed the larger buoys at the park and I believe they may have raised the lake level for the event (or was it the rain?). Its been VERY shallow this month... on another note an idea for a new public beach at the chamber boat launch was being floated but I dont know where it stands. It would be a perfect location along the wall that faces dead south.

Wow, that was really fun. Thank you Joe for putting up the hotline report. I rushed down and put up my hand me down and taped 5.2 with a small fin and floaty board, and then it picked up! Coming in for a breather, I found I had locked my keys in my car! Art drove me across the street still in my wetsuit to the police station for assistance. They normally won't unlock your car during the days as locksmiths and garages are still open, but they showed up anyway. While I waited for them I rigged up to a 5.6 and then it picked up! There was still wind on the lake when I finished up. on my way out I tried to hunt down some donuts for the Geneva Police officers but to no avail. Good times!

My reply to Scott's reply: Sorry to not come with a cooler full of FS Sessions for post session enjoyment......nowhere to keep em legally cool at school. I'll get you back I promise. I didn't realize Art had made it down for a sail. Great! Did anybody see new ripper Victor Dave? Also forgot to mention that another seasoned windchaser was derigging as I arrived, not sure who it was though.
On another note, my sister (who works at the colleges) mentioned she had heard something about developing the waterfront near the chamber as well. Here's hoping your predicted/preferred site turns out to be true Genevan, because she heard it was more like right where we are now, and adding a playground. Would the sand errode less if it was on the western shore as opposed to the northern one? I'm all for folks being more in tune with the water, but not if we get pushed out as a result. We have been stewards of that area for a long time now, respecting the land and water etc.....
BTW, I need a good Windkid write up one of these days.....but only when he feels inspired to do so.

Nice video. Film near my childhood hometown. Still don't know French but I believe this is Point au Roche. Looks like fun!

Thanks for finding that image of the lakefront proposal. I wonder why they feel that they would need to harden the shoreline where we currently launch? The sketch shows a reinforced shoreline with a fancy (ooooooh) walking bridge. Why would another regulated beach be necessary? Is the state park not sufficient? We've been lucky with Durand that their is enough beach for us to be able to still launch do to it's sheer size. I'm leary of this plan. I also don't understand the extended pier proposal. I have sailed by and walked that pier and the seaweed and water quality due to a lack of water circulation and nutrient loading (assumptions on my part) around the pier is a nightmare for the localized health of the lake. It smells like my car in the summer when my Long Pond worn shorty has been left to ferment in the heat. Time to organize. Wd

Nice video find Rick! Let's all start working on this: vimeo.com/42877542I tried it (the non planing segment) at Long Pond mid summer with varrying success. Btw, much thanks to Rick and his windsurfing shop/museum/hangout/man cave, and Shortboard Joe for spending a night trying to fix my suspect boom. The clamp gate had developed a crack, and the three of us banged around some idea's among Ricks multitudes of gear. Joe ended up having the magic touch and had me back on the water by the time the wind blew again. Thanks Joe and Rick.
