Just wanted to follow Ryan Lochte's example and admit that I pee'd in Seneca Lake yesterday. Sorry to all fellow boarders and kiters. BTW sure can't think of a better way to beat the heat than to skip around on the board in the wind and the waves on beautiful Seneca Lake. And the weeds can take note...next time... I'm bringing a weed fin!

So true Scott. The weeds were out in force! Also, as far as anybody knows, at the end of my session I was reflectively pausing in the shallows for a minute....nothing else.
I counted 17 sails rigged up on the grass of the park. We had a lot of the regulars in attendance: Bill, Ken, Scott, Art, Myself, Joe (officially back from White Salmon). Others were of course missed. A crew of sailors were around from the Syracuse area, as well as the crew from the southern end of the finger lakes. A bunch of new sails were on display including a few Ezzy's (Scott and Art), and a few Hot Sails Superfreak's (at least new to me). Bill was handing out his latest handiwork, an awesome united we shred, decided we're dead magnet. He's the new Rochester Windsports propaganda director! A ton of kites were out early, and after 11 were centered mostly over at the chamber launch. Funny was Greg's story about hammering home from Hatteras so he could sleep for 4 hours and then be at Seneca by 8 a.m.....Awesome!

Sunday morning was strange! For once Canandaigua had better meter numbers than Seneca. Maybe the wind was enough SSE. Anyhow, I finally scored a kite sesh on Canandaigua Lake!
I was about to drift launch at the kayak launch when I heard the best words you can ever here when about to kite alone "yo dude need a launch?"
A texan here for school was at the beach jonesing for a ride when he saw me. Sweet!
Had an hour and half on 12m.
Finally after all these years I can check that box.

Big thank you to all who were respectful of the 11am window at the park that day!

What is the 11am window?
The last time I kited was fathers day (cringes) & the kites were asked to leave the park...I'm guessing it has something to do with that but please explain.
I talked to and witnessed a guy launching from a skiboat recently...basically he figure 8s the lines around a cleat and feeds the lines out with a burly glove on his hand while the kite drags his boat all over the place...he even said it lifted the back end a few times. I only talked to him boat to boat with motors running then witnessed the launch twice from afar with binoculars so I'm not really clear what he's doing and though it scares the crap out of me the fact that he's done it successfully has me thinking again.
Sunday I could not make Seneca and honestly was discouraged by the park kicking me out and the commerce being so populated so I got my gear out and a 3 foot section of pvc pipe. I wrapped all 4 lines around the pipe from bottom to top (kite end at top), then I ran off with the kite to see how the lines would unfold. Worked well twice in a row but I'm not excited about giving the kite a 75 ft head start while I brace myself on my 2 foot swim platform. The alternative is to leave the kite in the boat and swim out but I need another kiter for that, my 3 year old is willing but he needs at least another year for that (jk).
What I'd like to do is feed one line out keeping the kite flagged but I'm envisioning the kite crocadile death rolling in a gust and tangling the crap out of the lines. I know I've posted about launching from a boat before but if anyone has any new info I'm up for trying, or at least a conversation. The guys that do it launch one kite, ride for 20 minutes then pass it to the next person. I'm envisioning a good ride with uninterrupted wind, no fear of staying upwind and/or nothing to get blown into....no bystanders, no parknarks...nothing but a boat ride and maybe a cold beverage waiting for you!

Your right - we may eventually need to figure something out for water launches.
