Great Story Brad, you're officially a Celeb!
We were down the road at Locksley, windsurfing. Great wind all day. Sailed a 5.2, and a 4.5, with my 93 liter board and the 85 liter wave cult. All the combos worked, but the best balance was the 5.2 with the 85. First time in Hamburg this year. Big local crowd, Joe and his wife, our man Mark, Gregg, Jon "the jump meister" McKee, Doug Curtis, Rob or Steven or both( they mess me up) and 4 or 5 others....Techno Ted from home base as well as the mast slayer Ken Jones, various kite creatures and a plethora of nubile flesh. I was a little disappointed to discover that the Town Of Hamburg created several mountains of sand and mud at the east end of the beach just below the parking lot eliminating that access to the beach, but that was the only disappointment of the day. Score, a 10 out of a 10, hands down.

Very cool indeed! Great to hear a good crowd showed to sail and kite. I had planned to join you guys, but time got away from me and I would have had more car time than water time. Sailed at Long Pond with Skymongrel Scott, Art, Kenny, Dan and Joe. I think Bob(?) was out kiting too. Report to follow. Wd

Woodlawn was awesome. Fantastic swells offshore, definitely a top ten day. One note for future reference -- the lifeguards asked us to push farther north on the beach to minimize potential contact with swimmers. I'll score it a win that they didn't ask us to leave, but we have to be careful.

This touches on a hot button issue - were definitely on borrowed time. I'm pushing you vets to get together for a conversation and organize. Particularly in light of how windsports are growing and how obviously the media is catching on. Time to organize before its too late.

Is this just an issue for kiters? Have the windsurfers figured out how to fly under the radar with lifeguards, etc? Or do windsurfers get booted off of beaches too?

Here's the thing. Right now windsurfers are getting a "Get Out of Jail" free card probably due to our relatively low key presence on the beaches due to our lack of long potentially lethal kite lines, but it is only a matter of time before the powers that be lump us all in the same category and when that happens someone somewhere will cover their Bureaucratic ass by banning all of us. I would say to my fellow windsurfers that we should stand by our less talented and sometimes life threatening kite creatures and fight for our right to sail! Ok some of 'em have talent, that is if they windsurfed first, but of course that's not the point... UNITED WE SHRED, DIVIDED WE'RE DEAD!

Whoa Windkid, why such a kite hater!? Less talented? Are you going with the "if it was easy they call it kiteboarding" line here? Just because a kiteboarder getting air is like a P.E. class pull up 15 feet in the air doesn't mean they don't have talent! Geez! KIDDING ALL!
We are lucky to have watched the evolution/growing pains of skiing and snowboarding play out before this. We most definitely need each other. I don't always get the shorts over the wetsuit thing, but I can get past that. Ha I love wind kid Bill's UNITED WE SHRED, DIVIDED WE"RE DEAD!
Nice bit on the news Brad!

They cut out the bit where I said "we are very careful to stay far away from the swimmers and beach goers." Anyhow, windsports may evolve to yet another level we have not even considered - possibly into something even more risky. Canandaigua now has a small section with a large sign that says something like 'area dedicated to small, non-motorized vessel launch.' This might be something worth pursuing at other locations (among other things). Then again, I cant wait until October when I can slip into my drysuit and not have to worry about this crap.
