Whew, wall to wall sun. Wall to wall kites too! A dozen kites must have hit the water on Seneca yesterday. I saw David, Brent (and fam.) Greg, Jason, Paolo, Kel, a couple woman, and a bunch of new to me guy. Windsurfing were, Doug, Bill, Ken, Jim, Joe, Mark, Gary, Bob, Ted, and three other unknown windsurfers. Superfreak guy included.
Around mid morning the wind pulled back and was below the forecasted average, so the 5.2 I had been riding was laid on the shore among the dead fish and seaweed. We sat it out a bit until Ken got on the water and was the lone windsurfer until Bill and I joined on our 6.5 sails and big boards. Ken gets the upwind award for the windsurfers. He found some good wind in the middle of the lake and managed to get well south of the Hobart/William Smith Boathouse. Greg was riding what swell their was on a floaty kiteboard a little further down the lake than that.
Their was a lot to see with tons of folks strolling the walk, and it got a little more crowded as the kiters were asked to leave the swim beach because of weekend crowding. With all the folks stopping to watch, it felt like we had a legit wind sport scene! As I left for family time, Jones was still ruling the lake from my windsurfing point of view. Jason was off to try out a possible new kite launch in the park. Will be interested to see how that adventure turned out.
Looks to have been decent wind all day today (Monday) as I type this. Hopefully we will get a report.
