Kinger and I went to a new location on Lake Ontario yesterday to test an East wind location I stumbled upon late last fall while trimming a sizzling willow tree away from RG&E power lines. I spoke with the home owner regarding the wind & waves in front of his home on East winds and said I would check it out in the future. Yesterday we did it.
The location has little to no parking but has grass rigging for 2 maybe 3 rigs. No Parking signs are everywhere but not sure they are enforced. (I spoke to the home owner & another neighbor who said the signs are there to keep out the beer drinking & loud people who litter)
The shore has few baseball to golf ball size rounded stones but after 10 to 15 yards it turns to sand. The walk to the wind line is waist deep about 30 to 40 yards depending on wind gusts hugging the shoreline. The wind gets stronger the further out you go and the wave conditions also change with water depth changes.
There is a coast guard shallow water buoy 1.2 miles off shore keeping cargo vessels from hitting the shoal. The bigger waves were 2/3 to 3/4 distance towards that buoy from shore. (Friday the waves where about 8 feet or so)
Upwind on the inside is a shallow spot about waist deep the waves were open and smooth for high speed flat water jibes. (these waves were about 3 feet max)
As with Durand on the near inside there is little wind so the sailing is better keeping away from the shore if you want to stay in the wind.
Directions there: Take the Parkway West past Long Pond and past Rt 259 (North Ave) Hilton the next intersection is Town Line road turn right and you will see the water at the dead end.
I sailed there till 6:30 on my 5.2m rain was on and off at times. Bare feet, no gloves and no hood.
I heard the Kiters where at the mouth of Bradocks Bay and from what Kinger and I saw when we drove past looked HOT. It was all white water as far as I could see. Lynn, Greg & Jason had a great time there.
