Those darn kiters...... They were on the water when I arrived, and they were on the water when I left. I spent 3 hours at Seneca today and sailed for 30-45 minutes. Seriously, it is really cool to see so many kites powering up and down down at the swim beach, they had a nice little corridor going today. Jason was riding a sweet looking surf board when he headed upwind by the windsurfers turf while we were all baffled by the wind.
The Windsurf guys were in full "get ready for winter" mode (meaning "I better bust your balls good now, 'cause it may be a while before I see you again), and also ready to sail, but....the wind. Was it blowing was it not.
At Seneca: Mark R. (doc heart), Scott (skymongrel) R., Ted B. (birthday boy 1), Jimmy "king of bail" King, Ken (Ontario Buoy), Bill (windkid, onefootwilly, Samadams), Art M. (always smiles), Gary (gwind, birthday boy 2), and Shortboard Joe H. (with a sore camber inducer so not sailing).
Judging by the gear on the grassy you would have figured that 15 guys were there to windsurf. Just as you got a rig ready to go, the wind changed. Everybody that had bigger gear was glad for it. I ended up on a 7.5 for the duration of my time on the water, and it was good. I sense that when you launch from the Park on Seneca you end up sailing around the other windsurfers, I like that. Some drag racing, a little show boating...and then wiping out after doing so...Jimmy saw me do this today. Stay warm everybody,

That was Chuck T's Timpone wave board I was on when you saw me. I've had it for years and finally decided to try it. What a great ride: fast smooth slice thru the water, long carving turns, and surprisingly good upwind-ability. Seeee, in light wind there's a way you silly windsurfers can use your existing gear to try kiting without buying a stupid twin tip! Got some footage riding it at sunset and will edit and post a memorial video soon.

Wow. Now that's cool.....in so many ways. I never knew Chuck, but I watched him work during rush hour traffic on a steeple in the village of Fairport.
Good stuff Jay.

Man do you guys whine. I was wondering who that stud was on the teal Exocet? I noticed he played the water most of the day without a whimper, almost as hot as those kite boarders. Must be he has a big fin. Just a "heads" up, a warning as it were. I did see a VERY gay looking individual "poling" on a long board obviously on the prowl along the newly paved walkway. Looked pretty sinister to me, I could have sworn he had a Penn State decal on his helmet but I can't be sure. Anyway you can't be too careful these days. For me it's time to return to Nevada, see you next year.
See you @ Stevenson.

Hey Reno, thanks for the kind words. You know they don't call me 1 foot willy for nothing. In any case I got lucky Sunday. My board is almost as wide as a formula board and can plane on a sneeze. I did manage to find wind along the eastern shore produced by some low level venturi effect that I believe is produced as when cold water pushes the warm air up it also pushes it aside to a small degree which along the coast creates some wind as the air is squeezed by the land, i.e. the venturi effect or at least that's my theory. Don't worry about that pole boy, he is no other than the father of this selfsame website Windydoug. He's not gay just light hearted. His helmet is his signature garment. I think it is to remind him of an accident he had during his youth involving a tree, or something like that. In any case he's relatively harmless unless he's on his board then the man turns into a waterborne hazard, just ask Jimmy. Anyway Reno good hearing from you, see you next year at Stevenson!

Ahhhhh, I think that 1footwilly was actually referring to the VINturi effect. You know..The Vinturi, the product marketed to aerate red wine much like a decanteur? The one that makes the wine dance and pop on your palet much like a windsurfer or kiter upon the waves?
It would appear that the Vinturi has been used often by Mr. Onefoot. So much so that he sounds like he knows what he is talking about in relation to the Venturi effect.
Also, I HAVE been doing some "Landpaddling" as of late. Search it on Youtube. A good group of guys including Gary (GWind) does it on Sundays. Very good time. My helmet is insurance for my brain. When you have a head as big as mine, that normally means you have a lot of brains. Graham Ezzy, lots o brains...and can sail pretty mean as well.
