Ken, Joe, Jimmy, Mark, and Doug were at the Chamber launch yesterday, and while the conditions never overachieved like we had hoped they would (like a bunch of wind starved loonies), we did get to sail.
Early on, Sunrise Jimmy (who must have set his clock ahead instead of back) scored some nice 5.0 (his big sail), and Joe road his 5.2. Mark was out on 5.5 with those two. When I arrived Ken was putting up his...........6.5....'cause that pretty much works for him no matter what it is blowing. I rigged my 6.6 (.1 sq meter more power to inch ahead of Ken) and hit the water with Ken...as all the other guys were slogging back to shore. Ken and I surely thought we had made the right call and were going to score some Seneca free riding. WRONG.
Limp back to launch. Still looked doable. Rig bigger. Went with the 7.5, Ken rigged his 8.0 and big weed fin. We slogged around for a bit with some barely planing mixed in and willed the wind to strengthen. It worked on this day as Ken and I blasted around for and hour or so. Thanks wind gods.
Saw one kiter while I was out, I think it was Meter Man Kel, so named for his side job continually fixing the Seneca meter for Weatherflow. Did see a couple kites that appeared to be practicing in the park.
What's the deal with the wind turbines in Geneva that never turn?
Wd.

The props belong to "Zotos" (a Japanese toiletry company) - they put them up last year. Rumor has it NYSEG had an issue with them being too close to their electrical lines...go figure. Anyhow, this area has been rated as only "marginal" for wind power and personally I think they are a joke. The city is now planning a new swimming beach adjacent from the chamber (in the L-shaped pocket east of the boat launch). This may be a prime launch. But not for swimmers as the GWWTP outfall is a few hundred feet east along the wall. Knowing how dumpy this town is it may never fly. Few of us kiters were at the park when the wind faucet shut off around 11am Sunday. Caught some SW 12-15 mph gusts this morning around 9am then it shut off again around 11am.

Yes I showed up but pretty much just as a spectator. The early bird guys got the wind and I think it was all done by 11am.
Tomorrow looks good though!! (11/13)
Anyone planning to go out to Seneca?

I just came back from the park. Turned tail when it looked like 21, then 27 gusts then back down to 18 SW. VERY cold. Sunday for sure.

Lets talk about a downwinder when we get there. I should be there by 11am.
It is about a 20 mile stretch from Lodi. I would take about 3 + hrs I would guess.
But it would be sooo cool!
