Every session has its story, or hero or sometimes its goat. Today was no different. Joe Herbert, myself, Ken Jones and Jimmy King who recently had risen from the dead all converged on Seneca today. The youporn of windsurfing, IWINDSURF.COM had seduced us with the promise of sultry southerly winds all afternoon on Seneca Lake. Like a match made on the Internet when we arrived we quickly learned that the promises made online were not the reality in the real world. This did not stop our man of the day Ken Jones. For one thing his 101 Futura had a new layer of Fiberglass to repair the sore memories of the Bluffs. Having attempted to repair the same board with sundry items like Elmers glue, peanut butter mixed with corn starch and fly paper to no avail he finally anted up and paid the $22 for a West Marine Fiberglass repair kit. In any case our intrepid sailor rigged a 6.5 and launched himself upon the glassy expanse of Seneca Lake to prove that slogging had Olympic potential, in point of fact he did this not once but twice just in case the observers on shore didn't see the beauty of it the first time. The unfolding scene was so overburdened with pathos that the wind gods broke down and showed mercy, something the wind gods do not do often. The wind picked up and soon we all hit the water. I like Ken, opted for the 6.5, Jimmy grabbed his big sail, a 5.0 and Joe his 5.8. As I said every session has it's hero or goat. Today was Jones day. Not only did his newly repaired board pass the test but Ken nailed a series of Jibes including one that I am told was picture perfect just off shore at the Seneca State Park Jibatorium. If I failed to mention that Greg and some other kite creature had been ripping it up all day it was by design, althought the darkside does have it's alure. 'nuff said.
