Talk about surprises!
If 10-20 NW forecast always meant what showed up on Ontario yesterday then we would be a lot less crazed as a group.
Windsurfers begining around noon on sails varrying from 4.7 to 5.8. Sailing with big grins at Durand were: Art, Gary, Scott, Doug, Keith, andl Long pond helmet wearing guy.
I was on a 5.2 and saw some great jumping ramps and jumps from Scott...glad we are seeing more of him. He was ripping on his bagged out 5.4 cambered Sailworks......he is wicked strong. I was fully powered and loving life. Overpowered a bit of the time, but I have decided that my new moto (at least when it is a day like yesterday) is "Owerpowered IS my comfort zone".
I know some guys got out elsewhere. Kinger showed up from Hamburg as well.

I sweated it out at work till after 5 hoping the wind would stay up...and it did! I met the 2 Chris's in Kite Korner at Durand and was surprised to see no one else out. I rode with them for an hour till they packed it up (1 Chris had been there since 1:30). They were on 9s & I was on my 11, nobody was underpowered and everyone was jumping well over 5 ft.
There was still a loan sail ripping around and I tried to get closer a couple times but he was way out there...must be comforting to have a board you can paddle in on if something happens to your sail.
When it turned west the wind was a little gusty with some holes but when it turned further north it was a lot of fun! I tried my 1st backroll which ended up more like a 690ish with me screaming and laughing all the way down & landing on my back. On a wakeboard the pull of the boat slows down any rotation you throw at it...this apparently is not the case with a kite! So I threw it a little too hard, but it didn't hurt, I had a blast and no matter what NOOA says the water is toasty warm.
I may have shed a tear when I packed up just before 8 o'clock as the wind was going nowhere. If anything it was getting better! But I promised my 2 year old I'd be home before he went to bed & I made it so its a win win.
Did I see a trainer kite near where the boards launch?!

Lo and behold, there he is......Kinger registered for the Hatteras Wave Jam! More specifically look for his picture WAY below Robby Naish's in the RIDERS area of the tour site just above Andy Mckinney (who has turned into a dog). That guy is taking it up a notch, it explains his showing up at Durand (and playing in the shore break like a gleeful little kid before jibing) after putting in some apparent "training" at Durand. Somebody notify the AWT folks that somebody is almost going to die out there during the event. All seriousness, represent us well Ripping Jimmy. Great photo selection for you as well....not taking yourself to seriously. Mnay thanks to the lovely Charmaine. I will have to give you a Rochesterwindsports.com flag to plant among the others at the event. Anybody else gonna sign up? Any retired folk? Maybe? WD
