I'm a single dad until Friday night or I'd be headed to Seneca tonight after work. Wife is out of town for continuing education. I haven't been out yet this year! Very sad.
Gusts to 40 would be too much for me but I figured it'd die down as the day went on. Think tomorrow is supposed to be windy as well so maybe it won't.
I think its time for new lines and I'm wondering if I should buy just the lines for $100+ or see what kind of deals I can get on a package w/kite, bar & lines. I have an 11 & a 15, I'd love to get a newer 13 but I know they've changed alot of things and I'm wondering if a new 13 would fill that gap or be more like one I already have. I'm also in the market for a Jimmy Lewis Flight Deck, heard nothing but good things about them in our (usually) lighter winds here.
How do I get to that fancy new Seneca meter Kel graced us with?

For the Record. Yesterday at Hamburg. The smallest stuff you had and a little luck. Gnarly but sunny. Best jump of the day was from "Down the road "Joe's wife. Attending were dead man Jimmy King, Beach Bum Jones, Mark the traveling trailer camp, Harnessless Greg Esq. Steve of the Buffalo brothers, Joe and his wave hopping wife, at least one windsurfer I didn't recognize, as well as sundry kite dudes hanging out on the beach. I started with a 4.5 and a 93 liter board and quickly changed to a 4.2 and the 85 cult. I had the 4.2 with maximum downhaul and outhaul. It was easily a >4 meter day. Despite the high wind the water was mixed and choppy with some improvement well off shore. There was some issues launching and I was very happy not to create Rinsed In Hamburg II, others were not so fortunate. It's my understanding an elite group of windsurfers took on Long Pond. This forum expects a report asp.

A few of us sailed Long Pond on 4.2s. I mostly just made my arms longer as I didn't bring my shorter board. Water was like bath water for temp and a dirty mud puddle for ...texture.

I personally reenacted every glorious step of "Rinsed at Hamburg" (the movie) yesterday after a brief 45 minutes of over powered bliss on my 4.6. I stopped to rig down to my 4.0 witch I think I rigged one other failed attempt at nuking conditions last year. Onefoot is really being humble here. He out sailed all the Rochester crew with more T.O.W. then anyone else. I have to admit it was nice to be joined in my rinsed reenactment by some very good sailors. Gnarly current, too much wind, and not nearly enough skill from this sailor was my calling this day.

Scott's (Skymongrel) arms may be longer now, but all that means is that his super muscled arms look proportionate to his body.
He and Joe were killing it on 4.2. Mostly everything Joe rides has a little magic, and Skymongrel was awesome in brawning out his session and throwing a few nice airs for the the Lakeshore rescue folks to see. And he did it all in a bathing suit!
An aluminum outboard boat broke loose from a dock and rapidly drifted down the pond in the waves, which brought the rescue folks out in case a person had been in the boat. TMI.
Anyhow, 5.8 (5.2 for Shortboard) and holey quickly turned into 4.8 and solid when Joe arrived. 4.8 and solid turned into 4.2 for all involved and then eventually a poorly rigged 3.7 for me. Scott and Joe blasted the pond taming the gusts and launching airs and some (you gotta believe me) mini swell rides when thing evened out. I struggled to feel comfortable on everything I was riding for the day, I probably felt best on the 3.7 but by then I was wiped out tired from fighting the gusts.
A couple of kiters arrived to check the scene and their digital anemometer recorded a 52 mph gust and an average of 35. Geez! A couple other sailors including Kenny arrived to weigh an attempt at sailing but decided against it to live to sail another day. Short sessions were the story of the day with getting in and out being made tough by the wind, waves, and extremely high Long Pond water. No beach (if you ever called it that) to speak of at Long Pond now.
I am sure some windsurfing and kite guys are out killing Ontario as I type. I hope they report in here. I've got the kids tonight unexpectedly....Brent we should get together for ice cream with the kids!

I'm a single dad until Friday night or I'd be headed to Seneca tonight after work. Brent, I'm an every other weekend dad now plus T & Th, or I would have gone out yesterday to at least test things out. I took my little Revolution sport kite out on Wed. and was glad I wasn't flying anything larger, but I think this is going to be the year of lots of water time for me if the wind cooperates. I picked up a 161 board over the winter that should be easier for me than the 140 that I was riding. I've got a 7m (for snowkiting), a 9m and a 15m (all Waroo), so I'm keeping my eyes open for a 12 to round out my quiver. Some good deals out on eBay and LOTS of 2007-2009 kites out there for a few hundred. Don't have any personal experience with the Flight Deck, but have read good reviews. See you out on the water!!

Doug & Brian, nexts time its windy and the moms are gone bring your kids and your gear to beach! We can switch off sailing and dad..ing!
That would actually work pretty well if we could use Charlotte. Lots for the kids to do and they have ice cream too. I don't think we can use it now that it open. Never too soon to get them started, right?!
