Ben Franklin would be proud and might want to give up on the whole electricity thing for a bar and 12 meter kite. Rescue Ranger Rick (when he's not the H2O Authority) used his daring and tree climbing skills to rescue this errant kite bar at Hamburg. Mark R. photographed the whole episode for posterity and medical/insurance claims. A couple of squirrels that happened by told Rick he was nuts..........bad humor I know. step by step how to pics in the odds n ends section 2010 gallery. www.flickr.com/photos/48453374@N02/Sailing or kiting review of the day for those less fortunate please?

I told Rick years ago he would be going to kiting and now there is proof he will do anything to start! The day was awesome! I arrived at 11 and started on a 7m; went to a 9m 2 hrs later and finished on an 11m about 4:15. Stellar wind from about 20-30, mostly smooth, with some decent waves 2-6' with good intervals early tapering off to chop. Rode East of the boat ramp a bunch and actually shared a couple waves with Rick I believe. All the windsurfers were shredding it up and catching some air here and there. Water temps were better than the air and fun was had by all. I so friggin wish that place was in the ROC!

My friend David that was you below the boat launch. Not sure if I'm as mad or madder knowing it was you. Please don't tell your friends about this place. I kind of like being there alone I don't need to look when I jibe.
I got to Hamburg a little after you and rigged a 5.2 had a great session even tough the wind direction was a little off of perfect, did manage a few front-side wave rides along with a majority of back-sides. Things got a little light when I was down in the boat launch area with you so I stayed a bit closer to the beach.
When I did go in I noticed everyone changing rigs both kites & sails that is when I decided to rig my tree climbing gear to rescue the kite bar from sure electrocution or at least UV damage. After the rescue the sailors seemed to be slogging out of every jibe even though they were on 100 plus liter boards. I only had my 85L so I figured this 220lb guy would NOT do well while 148lb Teddy was hit and miss with his 100L. I left for home knowing that Hamburg was by far the ONLY windy place on Erie.
Upon studying the wind graph when I got home seems if I waited around for 2.5 hours the wind came back up. Wonder if the other guys stayed long enough for their 4.5m & 4.8m to work like they did in the earlier part of the day.
I definitely could have put in more sailing time, I got home and began splitting firewood.

Ha ha, this place, as in East of the boat launch? I'll keep it a secret! You and I were tearing up some nice swell down there away from the crowd for a bit though I do have to say I had you about 5:1 for wave rides....lol You did miss some good wind after you left but winters a comin. It looks like the bar you got was an 07 slingshot pro fire from the pics but its kind of hard to tell. If you need some help getting it rigged up I'd be glad to assist.
