The action didn't happen at Durand or East Bay for the windsurfers on Thursday, so some hearty, action longing souls headed to the now toxic goop-less Webster Park. I didn't arrive till around 4, but a bunch of guys got out mid afternoon.
Shortboard Joe was the early bird followed shortly by Danny "flipper feet" Scorza, One foot Windkid Bill, solid as a rock Art, and Ontario Buoy Ken, who succeeded at his first Webster Park attempt (OR, this was his first successful Webster attempt).
Rick unlaced the work boots, rigged his 5.2 and got on the water in one fluid motion shortly before I arrived. He narrowly missed getting a perfect ten for execution from the German judge because he neglected to shut his tailgate to complete the maneuver. Still impressive Rick!
Sails ranged from 5.8 down to 4.7.
While watching the action I met a Rochester windsurfing vet. getting back into the groove after taking time for his family the past few years. Mark H. has gotten out at Seneca in the past few days and hooks up with Gus B.(bought Bill's Syncro), Doug K., Long Pond Steve, and some others for Hatteras trips. If you see him out there say hey. He may be in the market for some decent used gear.
Some quick observations from me: The wind seemed very side shore and allowed for the pier to almost be a non issue, though Dan (who made at least 8 turns on one wave) observed that it was still possible to sail far to windward before making the inside turn. The water was big and quite disorganized on the outside so I did some good swimming. Anybody else want to chime in here?
Nice work by all! I got a couple shots of Dan and Rick as well as some video on my still camera. I'll get those up in a day or two.
Did any kites get out anywhere?
Any other Webster sailors have insightful or witty observations to add? Do it below.
respectfully,
