Kept an eye on Seneca early on but had to go to fair haven with relatives. At about noon in Fair haven I noticed the winds shift into the WNW on Lake Ontario. Sorry to hear about your bad session. I am going to get one of those 'wunderground' stations soon.
As a side bar I just picked up one of those kite anchors for self launching out in the water. Last time I was at the park self launching off the post the kite slipped onto the sidewalk several times and made me very nervous. Cant say I'm completely thrilled about that launch point from a safety stand point.

Thinking about heading out to Seneca. Can anyone advise on the specific locations that would be good for launching a kite?

It is very windy, 15 to 20+ I attempted a launch from the park but it was switching up several times so I ended my day without going in. There were some minor close calls on the beach and the experienced kiters were saying that the park was squirly. Perhaps the Chamber?

The State Park at the north end of the lake (Seneca) is best for newer kiters. Plenty of shallow water to get going.
