Dear Team:
I'll be coming to Lake Canandaigua in early October for a wedding (Bristol Harbour REsort) and would like to stay a few days more for some windsurfing. Any suggestions as to where to stay so I can sail right from where I'm staying?
Regards,
WJBrooklyn

Hi wjbrooklyn,
The fall sailing season can bring some great winds. Unfortunately you've got to be willing to drive to score the best sailing sessions.
If Canandaigua is central location for the wedding, here are some possible sailing locations ;
- closest is Kershaw park, (north end of Canandaigua) good for SE, S, or SW winds (OK but not best)
- however for SE, & S, better to drive to Seneca lake, just 20 mins east of Canandaigua, always worth the drive for better winds & smooth swell (state park at north end of lake)
-SW direction calls for a drive down the NYS thruway to Hamburg beach in Buffalo. (again better wind & Lake Erie swells).
-Last, for W & NW directions, head up to Rochester, Durrand beach on Lake Ontario.
Hope this helps, Art

Art is right on the money! I sailed Kershaw park yesterday on 7.5 for an hour and a half. Met a few others out there including Bill and a guy who was passing through the area with his wife. He lives on Georgian Bay in Canada...the same body of water I learned to windsurf on..small world I though (but it's a huge bay!) WD
