Having been out of town at our family cottage on Georgian Bay in Ontario, I missed the two great west wind days....so it was great to get in a session in at Durand.
A bunch of the every increasing, and increasingly better kiter's were already out tearing it up when I showed up around 3. Gus Braun was windsurfing and looking strong on a 6.8. He has been working on his kiting I guess but his windsurfing was solid. Bill and I rigged up 6.5 and had a solidly powered couple of hours, and had to leave before the wind went down.
Greg was looking good on his kite after windsurfing the past couple of days, and Doug K. was way up wind showing his full command of kitesurfing. The beach looked great from the water with all the flying kites and idled kites waiting to go skyward. I have to get to know more of the kite guys............
David was looking strong and getting big air, Jason was spreading the stoke, and Chris K. was working on a bar mount camera with some early success.

I couldn't get out of work early so I shot down to the Bay oulet at 6:30 (b/c its close). I had to put up a 15m but I had a good half hour of powered up riding. Just as I was wondering why no one was at Durand the wind petered out on me. I was able to milk another half hour of slogging but I ran into an interesting thing; I've heard rumors before about the venturi effect near the bay outlet but I really got to experience it for the 1st time Thurs night.
The closer I got to the outlet (and unfortunately, the pier) the stronger the wind was. With the NW wind the water was very calm too but it made the riding spot pretty small. Still lots of fun and I even got to try a few jumps...only one of which I bailed on. I kept the kite dry and ended where I started so it was good day!
