Here are a few pics from the last week or so. A few windsurifng from Durand, and one of Kinger at Cargill in Buffalo on something way small. If you have any windsurfing or kite pics from treks to Hatteras or locally send em to me. Jim behind the breakwall at Cargill. Ken heading out. Nice Sail! Greg and the Coasties. Sasquatch sighting? Kokatat Monster? Just a toastie Jonesy. Stranger indicating to Ken where she thought the Ontario Buoy was SUPPOSED to be.

Looks like you guys are thanking me for leaving town and sending you wind. However, you might need me back to bring the warm temps.

Some more silliness from me...... I've been watching the NHL playoffs while waiting for my 6 week old daughter to fall asleep at night, and my favorite Vancouver Canucks just lost to the Chicago Blackhawks. Bummer. The funny thing to come out of this is that I discovered an alternate world Ken Jones. His name is Joel Quenneville and he is the coach of the Blackhawks. Some of you may know that the Ontario Buoy was an aspiring hockey ref before he got hooked on Windsurfing. Perhaps the link below will give you a glimpse into what Ken would look like (trading in drysuit for Italian dress suit) today if he had not chosen Windsurfing and all the insaninty that comes with failed forecasts, wrong sail sizes, mind freezing early/late season sessions etc..... Doug,
To bad for Vancouver Good news for Chicago (H20 Ricks team)
I did sail on moms day at Webster 4.8m & 4.2m great day minus the cold but the conditions were so right the cold was NOT an issue. Gary & Kinger were there for a short session and Greg showed late in the day when the sun was out and the wind was falling fast.
I reminisced back 15 years ago when in May the wind would blow 4.0m at Webster and there would be at least 12 other windsurfers there with at least 24 sails rigged on shore. Anyways I guess it was a lot less crowded than Canadian Hole in Hatteras so I didn't need to look before I jibed when out at Webster alone.

Yeah, I remember a late fall day in 1989 (8th grade) when I was at Webster Park in wretched weather for a cross country meet and the grass at Webster was covered with sails and custom glass High Tech and seven foot long Angulo boards. I and another buddy who sailed were in heaven, and would have stayed all evening if we didn't have to go kick some butt on the muddy X-C course. I am sure you were probably there Rick!
Ed, Dick, Pete, Mark R., Dan.....we need those guys around too.........tough day to get out, that mothers day! I just built a jungle gym in the back yard....didn't need to build a dog house too!! Ha!
We need a perfect storm of publicity and a cultural change to get folks into windsurfing and kiting. They are hard and expensive (relative to).....X Box and Wii are not. Our culture loves to be entertained (instantly), not be the entertainment. It also kills me that the "DO IT" section of the D and C looks like this every week: Fishing, hunting, boating, fishing, hunting, four wheeling, fishing, hunting. I've e mailed Leo Roth two times and gotten a courtesy reply each time...."thanks, maybe in the future".
I love windboarding!

I think the sport needs some more publicity. Kiting is exploding now but where will it be in 15 years? And even with that sport most of the people doing it aren't teenagers. I remember seeing windsurfing on ESPN in 1989, it blew me away, and I knew I wanted to try it - it took 15 years to get to that point though ... Anyways, there's a guy in my clan of wind hungry crazies that made a neat little camera that has two apertures. One aperture films on the upwind side of the sail and the other films on the downwind side. Put this little cam on the mast of one of the best windsurfers in the bay aannnnd the result is a really really sick sick video. Enjoy! videojibe.com/videos/stick-moves/- mike
