Dear Rochester Area Windsurfer:
This message is to alert you to a new, independent windsurf website. It is WindsurfResource.com. As the name says, it is a resource for windsurfers, but tailor made for windsurfers in the Rochester area.
Most importantly, WindsurfResource.com provides a launch finder where one can access an interactive graphical map to find a suitable launch. As you may know, launch access is a major issue facing the windsurfer as available land for launch access has dwindled over the years. WindsurfResource.com uses today’s technology (the Internet) to address the problems of today (dwindling access).
To access the Rochester area launches, simply click on 11. Roc on the map on the home page, or simply go to the following link:
www.windsurfresource.com/rochester.htm
WindsurfResource.com includes aerial photos of each launch, high resolution land photos of each launch, in addition to driving directions to the launch, fees, hazards, regulations, amenities, what wind direction works best, an analysis regarding strategies as to which launch to select for certain weather conditions, etc. I have personally visited each of the launches recently and have talked to people about the launches, and I believe I have included the pertinent information to allow the naive, the newbie, the new to the area windsurfers as well as the windsurfer who is looking for more options to find the best launch for any occasion.
In addition, WindsurfResource.com provides lots of other useful information, such as a glossary defining windsurfing terms, windsurfing history, windsurfing issues, links to other windsurfing websites, and lots of other information to give the reader a good overview of the sport and an understanding as to how each aspect of the sport fits together in the broader, bigger picture.
As a note, to view the high resolution photos of the launches, if you are using Mozilla firefox or Netscape navigator as a browser, simply right-click on the photo and then select “View Image”. If you are using Internet Explorer as a browser, ctrl + is for zooming in and ctrl - is for zooming out. Simultaneously depress the control key and the shift key while typing “+” for zooming in and depress the control key while typing “-“ to zoom out for viewing the land photos.
As a last word, the future effectiveness of this website largely depends on feedback from you, such as providing me with information on new launch sites, or other pertinent information that would make a nice addition to WindsurfResource.com. If you are aware of other pertinent launches that I have not included, I would appreciate hearing from you about them. If you want to write to me, send a message to WindsurfResource@yahoo.com.
I hope you will find my website helpful.
Sincerely,
Matt Lestina
