Today Mikey Z said its sort of blowing at Durand and I started wondering how can you tell?
I use:
Windfinder.com Sailflow.com Wunderground.com The Charlotte Pier Weather Station (http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=rprn6)
to a lesser extent accuweather.com & theweatherchannel.com
Am I missing any?

Check out some of the older threads on this. I use the Lakevision camera that looks out at the end of the Charlotte pier and the Weatherbug camera that looks out from Forest Lawn. The wind meter at the pier is pretty high up in the air and is usually about 5mph higher than actual.

Thanks for the info on the Charlotte Windmeter Chris. I'll keep that in mind when deciding if it is blowing hard enough. The title of this thread is ripe for the picking of wise guy descriptions of how to find wind. In addition to all of the previously listed sites make sure to check the NOAA nearshore and Lake Ontario forecast. I'm pretty sure you are getting that on sailflow (that is the same as iwind/kite right?). I have been using the Sodus Lighthouse cam to get a look at EBay Rd. Chimney Bluffs, and Ken has found a great live and controllable webcam at Oswego State. I believe he searched "Oswego Weather Cam" and found it on Google. I also like to use a wind dummy to find out where to go. But of course you can't use a wind dummy too many times without being one yourself. Windydoug

Hey Doug, speaking of wind dumbies, what do you do when the wind dumby is a kiter? ANS: The wind dumby is ALWAYS a kiter bahahaha! Ok that was worst joke ever and not true at all. Seriously, the rule of thumb between windsurfers and kiters is that kite sizes are usually 2x bigger than windsurfing sails. But kites keep getting better and more efficient, right? Is this rule changing? Chris and Lyn what size kites were you riding today? I can't remember if Lyn was on a 15m or a 12m. Us windsurfers were riding between 7.0 and 8.0.

I'll take the title dumby, or is it dummy? I've been called much worse.
Yeah, Lynn was on a 15, I was on a 14. Not a good comp yesterday though as you all should have been on 9 or 10M sails. Whole lotta schloggin' going on. If I would have been out on my 10M kite I would have been going about the same as most windsurfers. In general I'd say the ratio is closer to 1.5:1.

The benefits of this camera are twofold. You can turn the camera to the North and zoom in to view the lake conditions, or you can turn it towards that low roof, and hope some coed's are out grabbing some sun! Shouldn't their be tons more weather gadgetry from Oswego State, the alma mater of Al Roker?
