I was wondering if I was going to post this or not, but after looking at a few other post you have access issues too.
I was visiting my family in Canoga over the 4th and saw a kite in the air by the Island. I rode a ski to look into it since the wind was light and would not go out on my 12m and a skim. Anyway, this kid was trying to fly a 9m Bularoo and had a a girl launch his kite. She had no idea what she was doing! If I could have I would have given him and her some lessons and I'm not that good. (I had someone on the ski that was in sweatpants so I could not park)
Anyway I don't want any possible launch to get the axe. I want to ride there. If your reading this, please take a lesson and teach her how to launch your kite, she was moving it by the trailing edge!
I'm new to this forum and don't want to over step or piss off anyone.

You knew enough to know not to move w/trailing edge so you knew more than him...roll those sweatpants up and give a brother a hand! Who knows you might learn something yourself or maybe get a friend out of it. What goes around comes around too, help him out and someday someone will help you.
At least he was using a 9m on a lightwind day, not a 15m in 40mph winds...

New kiters can definitely put experienced riders in a tough spot if they are doing something wrong. There are beaches where there is a no tolerance rule - you do something wrong or dangerous and guys will come right up to you and ask you to leave at the risk of having them cut your lines.
Once you are schooled - you really do bare the responsibility to make sure someone doesnt close a beach and worse yet, hurt someone or them-self.
Good for you for posting here! Better still for the new guy to see that you sacrificed your girlfriends brand new sweat pants and any hope that you might get "any" that night all because the rider hadnt taken lessons or properly taught his kite babe to launch and land.
Having said that - even after teaching my wife time and time again - she still used to grab the wrong end sometimes. It is a small price to pay for a beautiful blond wife!
Self landing and launching is a wonderful thing where you can set it up!
Thanks for posting and help keep the vibe positive; here and on the beach!
Good luck and good wind!

Being in the Gorge, we deal with it all the time. I was just on the ski and had others to deal with. Alone, I would have stopped everything to help him out. PS you'll be seeing me shortly, 12/7m 06 Switchblades. I'm moving back to NY....

Finally a Switchblade fan! I wanted one in the worst way b/c I had a good experience on one in the Outer Banks.
The locals here, along with some help from my wallet, talked me into the Waroos. I realize the good experience was really due to having the right conditions but I can tell you I'm dealing with dirty pulleys on my waroos (The switchblade doesn't use pulleys). Can't wait to check 'em out! I'm planning to upgrade once I learn to keep my kite out of the seaweed that gathers on the 1st 10 feet of the shore, for now I'm glad I didn't break the bank on them.
For anyone reading this & thinking about getting into the sport I highly recommend buying used. Everytime I go out I get a little better at not beating the snot out of my kite...but only a little better.

FYI- 06 SB's do have pulleys.
For new people getting into the sport should listen to their instructor when it comes to gear. I do agree that used is the way to go when you first start. anything 06 or newer will work. you will smack that kite so many times and rip it apart.
See you on the water.....
