Did any one make it out on the 4th? The westerly wind held almost all day blowing mid teens and gusting a bit higher. I was out sailing (big boat sailing) on Ontario in the morning and the waves were building pretty good. I spent some of the afternoon on the pond windsurfing sheltered from the big waves and more importantly the many boaters out getting in the way. Almost got some planing gybes down thanks to some tips from Art last time I saw him at the pond this year.

I've been amazed to have any sailing on the 4th over the years, and it seems to happen frequently. hmmm... and usually in the wake of doldrums. I did get powered nicely on my 4.7 and 76L at E Bay in the am. Bill and Jim K were there when I arrived. They left and Art and I closed the place as the wind seemed to be dieing after lunch. After helping a friend move I got to Durand in the late afternoon. What a great scene full of holiday picnics and Latin music. I started on a 5.3 and 86 L, ended on 5.6 and 101 L for a couple of hours. Ted showed up with his "antique" gear 'cause the good stuff was all in the Gorge waiting for him. Pretty sweet day all in all. Gary

I was heading up to Potsdam on Friday afternoon and I brought my gear with me. I checked out some sailing places I had never seen before. The first was Rudy's Restaurant just west of SUNY Oswego. The swell was fairly small but it was spaced out very nicely and up wind it was pealing. I would love to sail there. The next place I stopped was Mexico Point. It wasn't very user friendly - a break wall down wind. Both place didn't have much wind. It looked like 8.0 conditions and I didn't have room in the car. The last place was Selkirk and I didn't go in because it cost $6 On the 4th I went hiking along all the rivers I used to kayak. There were lots of nostalgic feelings and memories of my first experiences on the water. You guys better keep up on your trip reports. Dougie, Bill, and Ken, we never got to hear about your trip to 'Da Rocks' two saturdays ago. - mike
