Hey All - start thinking about a trip to Hood River for some incredible sailing!!!! housing available for 7-10 days/night for $250 Joe Herbert and Ted Butcher are putting together arrangements for their annual gorge trip, along with Mark Rosenzweig and Chuck Lane from Boston. The house has 4 beds, plus a futon, great house (as Doug,Bill & Art can tell you) in a great location in White Salmon. Dates are likely around June 22 through July 25. Joe will be there the whole time, Mark the early 2 weeks and Ted & Chuck the ending two weeks. Additional house guests are welcome, for $250 per person for 7-10 night accomodations with access to the entire house. Start looking at your vacation time, airfare, etc. and contact Joe at 223-5463 between 9 & 9 or Ted at 385-6463 or email Joe at eherbert@aol.com or ask questions here. The odds and ends section of this site have some great photos from the 2008 trip.

For the record the Gorge is the best. Having just returned from Aruba for pure windsurfing heaven the Gorge can't be beat....unless Jimmy King takes you on a Honeymoon trip to Maui! Anyhow I highly recommend it, but if you find yourself sharing a room with Doug bring some earplugs. wd

Like most of the things I do, my snoring is over the top. Now I just need to jibe as well as I snore. Bet you've never heard anybody say that before.
This is a truly awesome trip and a great house. As is often true, Joe definitely knows somebody to have such a great house for low dough. It was sailing and life affirming trip for me. I got my jibe the best its ever been and then I cam home and didn't get to sail for 3 weeks, hence the current state of my jibe. Check the pics in the 2008 photo gallery. WD

Update on the Gorge. Dates we have the house are June 27 - July 25. Joe and Mark will be there the first two weeks. Joe, Ted & Chuck will be there the ending two weeks. Have had some inquiries from people about coming out and staying with us. If you are thinking about it please let us know!

The retired folks ( Joe & Eileen) have way too much time on their hands. However, it can help those of you who do not! Since the Gorge was discussed at East Bay, I did some checking on airfare. Any time you can get to the west coast from here for under $500 things are good! I used two different date ranges to give anyone thinking about it a couple of samples. The later date was actually under $400!!!! That timeframe actually had several choices of dates and times under $400. Hope this helps anyone who is on the fence and needed some additional info to help with the decision.

Doug, Bill, and Teddy took the overnight flight home last year (actually, mine was Continental and departed at the exact time to Newark) and it was strenuous but doable. Make that worth it. We got a whole day of sailing in before we left. The drive to the airport was pretty, and taking off heading over the Gorge while the sun was setting was a nice cherry on top of a great vacation. we have been busy sailing low to mid 4's for the last 3 days at dougs and maryhill. today was a rest day, 5.2 all day at swell. it has been nice warm weather sailing. sorry we can not make the swap meet, ithink my 4.2 is scheduled to be calling.i can not remember when , but a couple of days ago at swell we look up the river towards the hatch and there had to be 200 sails on the water. i believe it was 4.0 day. those happen alot out here. just sort of blend in together. ha. ha. need some rest for another sailing day. looks like it will be at swell and 5.0 to 5.5 . tough job but as long as i am here i will do it. see ya. joe & mark

Well, the duo of Ted and Joe have left the Gorge. As of Saturday evening they were in central/southern Idaho, likely staying overnight in the Twin Falls area. I expect that I will see them late Monday night. Guess I best be watching the Food Network for the next two days so that I can refresh myself on what it takes to cook a dinner! On the brighter side, my behind will be thankful to part itself from the mower.
