Dave, from my experience I think there are just as many windsurfers as kiters on the OBX. There is plenty of wind down there so give both sports a try. I heard there is a really good kite boarding school down there. They say that in 4 days (and $400) you go from not knowing anything to ripping, and there is probably no better place to learn either sport than Hatteras.
Up here in Rochester there are more sites that are sailable with a windsurfing gear. So you should take that into consideration.

As everyone knows we've had so decent shortboard sailing weather the past couple weeks. I met some of you last year and am still sailing on my beloved Fanatic Ultracat longboard. However high winds and waves make it difficult to sail a board like this. I was wondering if you guys have any short boards for sail, I was looking for something in the 125 L range and also looking for a more modern3.5 meter sail for windy days. I am also open to suggestions from you folks if you don't think this gear would be suitable for the Rochester area.

Kenny, Get a hold of Greg Broikos. I can give you his e mail, or check in the recent Long Pond post. Mikey linked to his e mail. He has a Naish Titan I believe that is a pretty nice board. Volume is right in the range you are looking for (which is a great range to have in Rochester). As for the 3.5, I would hold off if money is tight. Not many days for a 3.5 roll around here in WNY. Once you get yourself on a smaller board, and get things rigged right, that 4.9 could probably give you some pretty good range. The smaller board will tame things down a lot. you could probably put a 7.5+ all the way down to maybe a 5.2 on a 120L board. WD

Anyone have a kiteboard that they don't want or know of someone who does? I need a used kiteboard, preferably light wind/beginner friendly. I'm also in the market for a snowboard. Thanks JNorth5 at gmail dot com

I just got a phone call from a friend who has just canceled windsurfing officially. He hasn't been sailing for nearly 10 years anyways. He has a couple old boards, seven sails a few masts and components along his driveway that are FREE. go and get it.
75 Shaftsbury Rd, Rochester Shaftsbury is off of Browncroft East of 590 by 2 or 3 streets

if anyone is interested in making an ice board and doesn't want to trash their good water gear you should consider the last post to build and ice quiver.
There are 2 gray wave masts and 3 Rushwind sails (Rushwind is where Bruce Peterson worked before he opened Sailworks) The Sails are perfect ice sail sizes 5.0. 4.4, and 3.9

Good call Rick!!!!! I just purchased an old skateboard at a garage sale. In the coming weeks I'm going to get started on another ice board/freeskate/skate sailer to bring along as a loner. Check this link for a good set of plans: www.amcboston.org/windsurf/iceboardinfo/And if you have no idea what Rick is talking about go to youtube.com and search "rochesterwindsports" (one word) to see video footage from last winter. Hi Folks,
In the past week I have gotten a couple of e mails from some good folks looking to get back into windsurfing. One of the sailors has been off the water for 20 years or so but is looking for a 110L board and a sail in the 6.0m2+ range. If you have anything available, update the fore sale list here. WD

So Gwind you knew I needed a 85l board last fall when I broke mine at Webster, why didn't you mention that the JP was available then? I would have been all over that board giving it a test drive.
Are you heading to Hatteras in May? Love to give the JP a test drive.
I have been looking at the Starboard Kode and if the money is in my account or Wind Kidd & Ontario Buoy give me a sizable gift I may consider that board it looks like something I could make work or at least float.

Hey Rick, I didn't decide to switch out my 85L 'til early this winter. It's kept me inspired for the coming season. You're welcome to try it at the first opportunity. I'm not heading to Hatteras 'til the end of April for the 1st 2 weeks in May. Call me.

If anyone is looking for small inflatable kites, I have a bunch. All of them fly well, but they are 2005 or older, so they are c-kites with very little depower.
2004 Kites 5 meter wipika high aspect - barely used - $50 6 meter wipika - low aspect - used well - $30 9 meter wipika - low aspect - matches 6 meter - $40 The six and nine fly slow, so they are very fun and forgiving. However, I would not sell them to anyone that doesn't know the basics.
2005 8 meter Cabrinha Nitro Complete - $75 12 meter Cabrinha Nitro - Kite Only - $60 2007 9 and 12 meter north vegas complete - $100 for all.
Extra Large Pro-Limit Harness - 2010 - Hadlow?? Barely Used - $65 I need to get rid of this stuff I live in the Sodus, and would be happy to let you try the stuff out. Email me at pkv78@yahoo.com

Friend in Florida is selling 2 boards (lightwind and crazyfly-type) and a set of bindings for $200. Reply/pm with a number if interested and I'll have him call you. Its Dan that moved to Sarasota to teach kiteboarding. He said he'd ship.
