At Last! Back on the water. Had fun at Durand with the regulars, Doug, Jimmy, Joe, Mark and Ted. A big thanks to Doug for the detailed sailing report left on the hotline! I had to laugh as it contained the individual sailors, sail and board sizes! I left home with only the stuff I really needed. I was fully stoked on my flattened 6.3 Ezzy Panther and 115 Fanatic Ray (with small fin).
On a more serious note, poignant in that yesterday two boaters drowned in our nearby waters at Irondeqouit, I thought I'd make an observation regarding the effort by folks to ensure a fellow sailor's safety yesterday. A fellow kiter got in trouble with an equipment problem and although a lengthy self rescue was most likely going to succeed, it took a kiter, windsurfer, a group of kayakers and finally a jet skier to expedite the event. Wow...now that's what I call "getting along"!

Sorry to hear about the equipment problem. I'd love to hear more about it, like what, why and how to deal with it in case it happens to me some day. Somehow I always find myself kiting alone.
Speaking of happening to me some day, the stars lined up for me last night! I had to decline a Chris call (he went too early for me) but I rushed home from work to find a 3 yr old too tired to play with me and a wife saying 'go while you can!' So I headed off to the outlet to find Rick packing up saying something about food...he said use a 12, I said I have an 11 & a 13, he said 11 and he was dead on! I thought that guy was a windsurfer?!
My iphone app said 16mph average from the pier and I'm guessing the real wind was just over 20 up high & out in the open. But the direction was the coolest thing about it; it had enough North in it to make it nice and smooth but enough West so that the pier blocked most of the chop. I had nice long smooth spots inbetween rampy kickers that made jumping a blast! On that how do I come down nice and slow instead of gaining speed heading downwind and crashing into the water...hold the 12 longer? A couple went good a couple not so good, still trying to figure out what I did different.
I got there around 6:30 and left when the sun went down even though the wind was still spot on. I had a huge smile on my face the whole time and I had my gopro on my chest. I'll post some video if I get time to edit but honestly the chest mount does not work well unless you are really interested in the chicken loop ;D
There was a yellow kite on the other side I but I got shady wind every time I tried to go around the outlet so I stayed by myself in my little piece of paradise. This was only my 2nd time out this year but I'd rather have had last night's conditions once than so-so conditions 10 times anyday.

Great session reports you guys. The wind was surely stronger than reported by your iPhone. I was the most successful on my 6.6 two cam Ezzy and 116 board with a 15.5" racing fin ( specifics for Scott!).
As I was leaving Scott and Teddy were just finishing chasing the sun to the sleep, and I also saw the Kayak group lending a hand to the water bound kiter. Joe and I had been keeping an eye on that kite with the binoculars. I think all the water sport enthusiasts sticking together and being around each other is the way to grow all of our sports in Rochester. A SUP guy was also giving some wave rides a shot at Durand. Adding on to Scott's session report, H2O Rick blazed in to the beach on his Formula and an 8.0, adjusted outhaul(?) and blasted back to Irodequoit on a downwinder to be fashionably late to dinner. He was upset with himself that it took 4 tacks to get up to the beach, but we were sailing pretty far into the wind. Talking to Rick yesterday as he assisted in fixing up my boom, he mentioned doing a lay down jibe or two in the smooth waters inside the IBay pier....cool!
