Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Erik. Took a 2 day bootcamp kiteboarding course out in Cape Cod last week, fell in love with it instantly. Rented equipment the next day spending half a day on the water, and decided to buy this past weekend. Got a 2011 Slingshot Key HD 10m package (board and everything) for $1200 (even included a new wetsuit and trainer kite) Working with the trainer daily. I'm looking for good shallow places to try (that are beginner friendly) I live in Livonia, but don't mind a drive. Has anyone ever been out to Lakeview WMA (on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario?). I get out there a few times each summer to enjoy the beach, but I think it might be perfect for kiting. Sandbars hundreds of yards out, and pretty reliable wind. www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9328.html

Erik, Nice to "meet" you. I'm right around the corner in Lima. I'm looking forward to getting out more this fall, only got in the water a few times this season, but have been out flying the kite lots and did some wakeboarding too. Haven't kited Lakeview but have been up to Selkirk many times and, if the wind is right, it seems like it would work well. There's a nice interactive map that you can see which spots work best for the wind. This shows windsurfing spots as well, so all of them aren't good for kite launching. www.windsurfresource.com/rochester.htmAnytime you want to fly, let me know. I generally hit Mark Tubbs park in Lima any time there's enough wind or, once they harvest the beans next to my house, there's a 100 acre field which is GREAT for snow kiting in the winter. Welcome! Brian
