A little time spent on the Hamburg forecast for Wednesday or actually heeding Jimmy King's calls regarding the conditions would have allowed anyone who would listen the opportunity to enjoy an incredible day of sailing 5.5 - 4.5 conditions in 80 plus degrees with head high swell as Bill, Jimmy, and I can all attest to. The kindly couple from Erie, Pa. along with Mark, Andy, and two other sailors from the Buffalo contingent can also confirm what Jimmy was nice enough to pass on by personally calling a number of us on his way driving over as well as his on the spot report to the windline. It really was one of those special Hamburg days and I for one thank Jimmy for the heads up.
Extra fun for me was that I was able to test out my Futura after months of patching, sanding, patching, sanding, and painting the multiple gashes it suffered on the boulders at East Bay and finding that for the most part it held up well. A couple minor blemishes reappeared and are being taken care of before venturing out again.
I've been waiting to hear how all who hung out in Rochester made out that day? Honestly, I was so tired from sailing all day that I didn't have the energy to check the local meters when I returned home.
And for anyone who cares, Jimmy looked great as usual ripping it up out in the huge buttery swell we all enjoyed that day. Bill was seen nailing multiple jibes and my water starting was as strong as ever.

I missed out on Hamburg due to 10hr days this week at work (oops I used a 4 letter word sorry) Out at 5 means rigged at 6:30 at best in Hamburg likely closer to 7. The graph showed the wind began its WNW swing about 4 with true NW at 7 and decreasing wind speeds at that so going there was NOT an option
Multiple forecasts had indicated Westerly winds for Rochester after 5 so I was hedging my bets that I could get something up till dark. Arriving at Webster after work Joe was rigged Art was on the water with a 5.2/4? Doug was on shore rigging Scorza had left. The wind was cycling in & out/up & down. Gary showed up Joe derigged & left to pickup his grandson.
Art rigged his 5.8 went back out & seemed to enjoy the most rides. I rigged a 6.3 sailed out and ended up with a JSA (just sailing along) boom break, when I jibed is when I knew the boom was just moments away from total failure. I limped back to shore knowing that if I fully sheeted in "I could have almost died out there" Must have been windy enough to fracture the strongest boom ever made (as stated by Dale Cook) HPL's have been the best boom I've ever had so now I am willing to buy a replacement if anyone has one. HPL's fit the Streamline front end (hands down the strongest front end ever made) so don't offer me anything else. I asked Dale Cook what other booms the streamline front end fits and he mentioned perhaps Chinook but it takes too much retrofitting and that the Chinooks break too easily, he should know he also sails when it is truly windy.
I also heard Jim & Joe had a session at Bills place on Thursday. And Kings message stated he was at Ebay Thursday morning also. That's lots of practice time.
