I know that's a difficult concept, still....
The SUP thing has been sweet enough to keep me on the water. Ken Altfather at Baycreek Kayak and Canoes has a bunch for demo, rent and sale. He's also organizing this Wednesday eve Downwinder.
Hi Guys,
Been doing a lot of thinking on the Downwinder shuttle service I promised and
with Doug's help I think we've got a decent proposal. Here are the details:
1) 4 week (trial) series - every Wednesday nite 5:30pm
2) 2 courses - either Slater Creek (Russel Station) to Seabreeze or Seabreeze to
Web Pk. Or vis a versa, depending on the wind.
3) Each Tuesday, I'll check forecasts and send an email on the course for
Wednesday.
4) Meet at the PUT-IN. (this gets us on the water as early as possible, before
the wind dies)
5) Shuttle bus is at PUT-IN to pick up gear bags (change of clothes, snack,
beer?). Please pack one or two bags, not looses stuff.
6) Shuttle bus drives to the takeout and is waiting our arrivals.
7) When all are back, shuttle returns to PUT-IN with paddlers and boats.
8) Open to skilled sea kayakers, skiers, SUPers.
9) Shuttle will run regardless of conditions - unless it is just too crazy.
10) We'll group up in POD's of 3 or 4 so that no one is without some partners.
POD's will travel together.
11) Each POD should have at least one cell phone (in a waterproof container).
Shuttle driver will be primary contact for general info. 911 if emergency.
12) After 4 week trial, we can consider longer runs - Braddocks to Seabreeze,
Seabreeze to Bear Creek.
13) Cost for the 4 week series is $60. Sorry, no prorationing if you can make a
date.
14) Starts next Wednesday 8/10.
15) Ok to pass the word on to other capable paddlers. But, Ken reserves the
right to refuse if qualification doubtful. You all know it can get pretty rough
on occasions. This needs to be fun, not a series of harrowing rescues.
16)The course is a little short for ski's, so skiers can loop back up course or
surf beach break while SUPers make there way.
17) Here are a couple of links to the two courses: routebuilder.org/5r5
and routebuilder.org/5r6 .
Bus and trailer are limited to 16 boats or boards. Call or email Ken -
ken@baycreek.com, 585-288-2830.
Should be awesome fun,
Ken
