Well, I have inherited a board and sail that my cousin used when he was a bit younger. The board is a more advanced board so it'll be a little tricky to learn on but I have faith. I have a few sails for it as well so I'm pretty psyched. I should be getting it up to my house in the spring time.
I have to figure out how to learn to ride this thing so I thought I'd first start by finding people in the area that are also into it. So hi everyone. I'm Eric and I'm going to be out on the water this year, learning how to ride a sailboard.

Sounds great Eric! It's a luck man that walks into a decent board and a few sails. We all still struggle at some point while we are windsurfing, so if you need anything say something on the beach, or drop another post on the forum to get some input.
Pretty much the only place to get a true lesson in this area is at Canandaigua Sailbaording when it opens back up, otherwise taking your lumps at Durand, Long Pond, and Canandaigua is another way of going about it. Like Windkid said, see ya on the water!

WindyDoug,
Please don't tell me that struggling isn't part of windsurfing. It happens to be the only part I've mastered at this point. Other then "just floating."

Ontario Buoy!!!!!!!! Please forgive me. Struggling is certainly an integral part of windsurfing!!! Inner conflict, despair, self doubt, whatever you want to call it. I had a dream the other night that I was floating on a board in awesome conditions but was unable to even get the sail out of the water....can you picture it?? Have you been there?? The funny thing about the dream though is that I wasn't myself, I was Windkid! A shaggy, stubbley faced, long haired Windkid and I was getting rinsed at Hamburg. As I STRUGGLED I kept looking for insight from a little Volleyball that was magically affixed to the front of my board. I kept calling the ball Wilson, but in reality it looked like Shortboard Joe's head, and it just kept staring back at me with dry hair and telling me "bend your knees more, point off the wind, turn on the swell, I haven't fallen in all day, flip your sail sooner, you should have been here earlier". Why do you torment me Shortboard Joe Head Volleyball windsurfing demon/god!!!!! ?? Weird dream huh? Based loosley upon the Tom Hanks movie, Cast Away. OR the video of Windkid living this nightmare (in full tragic living color) here: note how Windkid ignores the wind and wave God's initial warning to turn back at 1:55 of the vid. The nightmare begins at 3:02 and continues for approximately 4 more minutes. I think Shortboard Joe likes to say "good laughing"!you can maximize the size of the carnage by clicking on the outward pointing arrows at the bottom of the screen . Truthfully, I do often have a dream where I am racing around trying to get where the wind and sailors are, and when I get there everybody is gone, or packing, or I have left a vital piece of equipment at home. Oddly, Long Pond is one of the sights I always seem to go to in this dream, and it is covered with Lilly Pads. No Joke. WD

Well I should probably go take a lesson but I'd be happy taking the beating down on the ponds with people giving me a few pointers. I picture myself on the other side of long pond wading past the cattails trying to get back to my car. Maybe I will look into those lessons.

I just really hope everything is in good shape and quality. I'll be bummed if the rig needs a lot or if it's real outdated but whatever, it worked back then.
